Dr. Mike Glenn

Everyone a Theologian

In this inaugural course, Dr. Mike Glenn will advance the principle that everyone is a theologian and how that spiritual truth empowers every believer to pursue a lifetime of ministry. By using You Are a Theologian, Searching the Scriptures, and Every Woman a Theologian as our primary texts, this course will guide participants on how to understand and interpret the Bible—not as passive readers, but as active, engaged theologians. Students will learn foundational principles of biblical interpretation and study, discover how to approach scripture with clarity, using a blend of practical tools and theological insight, and engage in group discussion and a hands-on practicum that is biblically based. This course will give participants the foundation to become lifelong learners of Scripture and encourage them to take the next step in formal theological education at the ECN Institute.

Spiritual Formation

In this course, Dr. Chris Brooks will lead the students through the Biblical, historical, and theological aspects of Christian formation, including the holistic and other models, as these are practically applied to personal life and ministry contexts. Christian formation is predicated on the biblical theology related to the love of God for humanity as expressed in creation and the four aspects of salvation: justification, redemption, sanctification and forgiveness. This interactive process concerns the changes and spiritual development of the believer as God forms, conforms, and transforms believers to reflect the image of Jesus Christ through (God’s gracious actions in and for the believer) and the believer’s response to God’s loving actions. These actions result in progressive formation (in spirituality): conformation (to the will of God) and transformation (into the likeness of Christ).

Christian Theology

This course will cover the key tenets and central doctrines of the Christian faith. Special focus on biblical foundations, historical developments, theological method, and major controversies and confessions. The objective of this course is not to teach the Baptist, Pentecostal Christianity, Reformed Theology, Wesleyan views, Roman Catholic, Orthodox, or any other specific type of Christianity. Rather, the goal is to teach what Richard Baxter called, “mere Christianity.” That is, to teach what has been believed “by Christian believers everywhere, always, and by all.”
